Neighbors Find 40 Cats Dead, Dying In Jeannette Home

I saw this on the news last night and found the article online Here. Please check it out and make a donation if possible.

Residents in one Jeannette, Westmoreland County, neighborhood discovered 40 cats dead or in desperate need of care after their owner abandoned them."They were surviving by feeding off dead cats. There were also no kittens, which is very indicative of a starvation incident," said Kathy Burkley, of the Humane Society of Westmoreland County. The home on North 4th Street has since been condemned.Neighbors tried to help the cats when their owner went missing for several weeks."There was a door and all you saw was the head to the cat. It was a pitiful site," said neighbor Maria Kanauss.Kanauss said she thought the cat was trying to make its way out of the home when it died.Kanauss' mother called police, who quickly alerted the humane society."We only had so much space in our truck and so much space in our shelter, so we could only take about 15 to 16 cats," said Burkley. The humane society is in need of $3,000 in donations to nurse the cats back to health.Four have died and some were taken to other shelters.Police said the owner will be charged with animal cruelty.
